LSC Bestows Scholarships to Five Future Physicians Dedicated to the Medically Underserved
Five Texas medical students, motivated by their desire to help those in need, have been chosen to receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Lone Star Caucus (LSC). The LSC, comprised of smaller, nonmetro county medical societies, awards scholarships annually to medical students who show an interest in working in medically underserved areas.
“These scholarships for students from the Lone Star Caucus counties ensure continued access to medical care for underserved Texans,” said LSC Scholarship and Awards Chair Nefertiti duPont, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist in Shenandoah. “The LSC wants to encourage future physicians to return home and practice locally.”
Kudos to the recipients for their outstanding academic achievements and strong leadership skills:

Katherine Asmis -- A third-year medical student at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.
- Felipe Diaz, Jr. -- A third-year medical student at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine.
- Sachi Khemka -- A third-year medical student at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.
- Hannah Riva -- A fourth-year medical student at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.
- Bunnarin Theng -- A third-year medical student at The University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy School of Medicine.
The LSC funds the scholarships, while the TMA Office of Trust Fund Administration manages those funds.
