Short statement: Texas Tech University HSC El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is an institution dedicated to medically serve the region of El Paso, the Mexican American border, and beyond. The area is currently labeled as medically underserved with a large portion of Spanish speaking residents, so as a medical student there are plenty of learning and service opportunities. I am pursing a specialty in Internal Medicine and wanting to practice medicine somewhere along the Rio Grande River in the great state of Texas. I am interested in this because I want to help reduce medical disparities in underserved patients, particularly those that are Spanish speaking (just like me) to help improve hospital stays and health outcomes. Gratefully, the Lone Star Caucus Scholarship to me means that I now get to focus on being able to serve my community and the mission of the LSC!

Short Statement: I am interested in internal medicine and especially hospital medicine right now. I am so excited about being a recipient of this scholarship because the Lone Star Caucus represents the interests of patients and physicians living in medically underserved areas by providing them with political representation at the statewide level. I have been involved in organized medicine through AMA/TMA through serving on my school's leadership team as well as on MSS committees such as HCC and the Advocacy Committee. I definitely plan to do my part to ensure that my voice and those of West Texans continues to be heard throughout my career as a physician.

I am pursuing psychiatry and will complete by general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at UT Southwestern. I am honored to be chosen for The Lone Star Caucus Scholarship because it aligns with my mission to provide mental healthcare to the underserved and rural area of Texas, specifically child mental healthcare.
